Freightliner said it will cut production from 120 medium-duty trucks a day to 100 starting Sept. 26 at its Mount Holly, NC operations. The company also said it cut 260 jobs at the plant. The cuts are reportedly in response to low customer demand and rising diesel prices, the Charlotte Observer reports. Once completed, the layoffs will give the plant 1280 employees, the same number as in August 2004.
